Gravida patron Lord Robert Winston visited Auckland in March 2014 to participate in a number of events across the country, the big event was the LENScience TALKFEST, which was presented in front of a live audience and broadcast across and the Cook Islands to more than 7,000 students.
The broadcasts were made from the University of Auckland Fale Pasifika with live audiences from local Auckland schools.
The Year 7 to 10 students hear Lord Winston and Jacquie Bay discuss puberty and its related issues. The Year 12 and 13 students participated in a discussion about Lord Winston's research into fertility, in vitro fertilisation, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and the ethical and social challenges created by this technology.
Both broadcasts created lively discussions, assisted by each of the panels of four students, with keen interest via live-chat from the students watching remotely from as widely spread as Stewart Island, the Cook Islands, Gisborne, Northland and Christchurch.
For anyone wishing to view the broadcasts, a link to both LENScience TALKFEST presentations is available on the LENScienceConnect TALKFEST website.
