Annual Report for 2013 published
April 2014
The 2013 Annual Report is an opportunity to appreciate our achievements over the past year, a year which has been one of expansion of networks (both national and international) and diversification of funding sources. Highlights from the report include:
- the cost-benefit analysis of Gravida’s research by the NZ Institute of Economic Research which estimated that for every million dollars invested in our work, there is a potential $33.8 million economic impact based on reduced healthcare costs and increased agricultural production;
- strengthening of national collaborations – in the 2013 grant round, 80% of the projects involved collaboration between institutions and disciplines;131 Gravida-funded papers published in peer reviewed journals, with the majority of published in top tier journals;
- the awarding of a $2.4 million Ministry of Health contract and the excellent progress made in the development phase of the “Improving Maternal and Child Nutrition and Physical Activity Workforce Development Service” Project;
- the continuing outstanding example of science education and partnership delivered by LENScience, with a particular highlight in the publication of the first Māori language learning module.
The Annual Report also highlights some of the outstanding researchers who are working within Gravida, including our deputy director Peter Dearden, and the next generation of scientists supported by Gravida-funded PhD scholarships and postdoctoral fellowships.
